Roasted potatoes coated with curry leaves and flavourful spices makes this tongue tickling dish, which can eaten as a snack or as a sabzi as well.

Generally curry leaves are used just for tempting in most of the dishes but this gluten free curry leaves potato recipe is one of the few, where curry leaves are the star ingredient. Previously, we have used curry leaves in so many recipes, but it was only Curry Leaves Rice wherein curry leaves were in a dominant state.

Though this is a potato recipe but potatoes are bland in taste and this is primarily the curry leaves which brings taste and flavour to potatoes in this curry patta aloo snack recipe.

This curry patta aloo recipe without onion and garlic calls for very basic and regular ingredients. If you look into the list of ingredients, you will not find onion, garlic, ginger, green chilies or tomatoes….just few whole and ground spices, that’s it.

Although whatever be the spices are added in this vegan curry patta aloo recipe, but the main flavour is overtaken by the curry leaves. Add curry leaves, raw peanuts, urad or moong dal, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, mustard seeds and dry red chilies.

Roast them on low heat while stirring continuously.

If using fresh curry leaves, they will begin to change their colour. Keep roasting.

Soon curry leaves will turn dry and crisp. If using dry leaves, their colour will not change but still you will find all the ingredients well roasted.

Remove the pan from the heat and let the ingredients cool down completely.

Transfer the roasted ingredients in a grinder jar.

Also add turmeric powder, dry mango powder and salt.

Grind coarsely. Keep aside.

Heat oil in a pan.

Add potatoes (boiled, peeled & cubed).

Roast them while stirring occasionally until they turn golden brown.

Add the powdered ingredients.

Mix well so that potatoes get coated with masala so well.

Curry Patta Aloo are ready. Enjoy as a snack or with roti or paratha.

1 cup = 250 ml

  • 7-8 potatoes (boiled, peeled & cubed)
  • 1 cup curry leaves (fresh or dry)
  • 2 tbsp raw peanuts
  • 1 tbsp urad or moong dal
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 4 dry red chilies (or according to taste)
  • 1 tbsp dry mango powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil
