“Meri“, this is such a word that brings nostalgia if you are belonging to Jammu.
Also called by the name “Khatti Kheer“, this recipe is something having deep roots in Dogra’s culinary culture.
This is a traditional recipe which is loosing it’s existence in the present day and today’s generation hardly knows about it. What to say of Gen-Z, even all the middle aged person must not have eaten it.
If you ask anyone about Meri, 99% of the people will say that they have heard the name but very few will say that yes that have eaten it as well.
This is a summer treat and most definitely because of rice and yogurt/buttermilk, it has all the cooling properties, which keep our body cool in the extreme hot conditions.
Not just a seasoned dish but it has religious relevance as well. It is also prepared on the occasion of Naag Panchami for offering to deities and most specifically in villages, it is made and eaten as a part of celebrations whenever a calf takes birth.
So do try this dish and help in reviving this lost recipe.
