HOW TO TWEAK THE RECIPE?
This Cilantro cumin rice can be made in many ways in different pots and after making certain changes in ingredients, if some are not available to you :
JEERA RICE IN PRESSURE COOKER OR INSTANT POT
If you are short of time and not enough time to cook rice and prepare tempering separately, you can do it in one go.
Take a pressure cooker or IP, add oil and saute cumin followed by all given spices. Then add rice & water. Close the lid, cook and your cumin pulao is ready. Isn’t it simple?
But note that in this cooking process, the amount of water shouldn’t be in excess because you are not going to drain water later.
The most common formula of cooking rice in pressure cooker is to use water double the quantity of rice.
For eg, if you have taken 1 cup of rice, then water has to be 2 cups.
JEERA RICE WITH LEFTOVER RICE
Jeera fried rice recipe can be made with leftover plain streamed rice also.
Pre-cooked rice will make this a 2 minute recipe. All you need to add oil, cumin and spices. And lastly rice.
So by putting no much efforts, delicious cumin rice are ready.
CHOICE OF JEERA RICE RECIPE INGREDIENTS
What we have shared in this post is the recipe of Jeera rice in restaurant style but if you are making it at home, you are not bound to use all the garam masala spices, as shown.
Some keep it very simple limited to oil, cumin, salt & rice. That’s it.
Or pick the one you have.
Furthermore, some also add roasted cashews, green peas, onion and green chilies in jeera rice. I personally love cumin rice with peas.
So here also, you can tweak the recipe as per your liking.
TIPS TO COOK PERFECT & EASY CUMIN RICE
1. Quality of Rice
Choose the best quality of rice. And most commonly, this is aged long grained basmati rice, which is the first choice of everyone, when it comes to pulao or biryani.
Each grain of basmati rice fluffs up and expands on cooking. And still they do not stick to each other.
Saying this doesn’t mean that other type of rice are not good at all to make jeera rice, biryani or pulao, but basmati are counted on the top.
2. Washing Rice
Washing or rinsing rice under running water is very important. Rinsing helps in removing the starch from rice, which causes the rice to stick & be mushy.
So always wash rice number of times until water runs clear.
3. Soaking Rice
This is not in the case of jeera rice or any other kind of special rice dish, but soaking of rice is followed as common practice with respect to cooking of rice.
Soaking of rice for 20 to 30 minutes not only cuts the cooking time, but also results in long, fluffy and perfectly cooked rice.
4. Wide Pot
To cook the rice, use a wide Pot or pan so that rice can breath. They need a space to expand and if the pot is congested, that will cause the rice to stick to each other.
5. Stirring rice
Firstly, don’t stir the rice too frequently and whenever you need to do it, prefer to use fork over spoon or ladle because spoon may break the rice grains.
6. Don’t overcook
Cook the rice only to the point they are soft enough to eat. Extra cooking will make them sticky and mushy and you will find good in taste.
7. Spreading rice
Once the rice are cooked, immediately drain water from them spread the rice in some wide plate or tray. This will cause the rice to cool down immediately and their cooking process will come to an end.
