Curd rice recipe | thayir sadam | how to make easy curd rice recipe with step wise pictorial and video method is a popular south indian recipe also called by the names  daddojanam, thayir sadam, Perugu Annam or bagala bath in South india.

However it is also prepared in other parts of the country, though not in a typical south indian style, and popularly known as dahi wale chawal.

Thayir sadam recipe is simple, delicious and comfort food and good for everyone irrespective of age. Curd rice is usually prepared during summers because it keeps the body cool.

We have been eating dahi wale chawal since our childhood, especially when health and in particular, stomach used to be upset.

Dahi wale chawal we used to eat were having just rice, curd, salt and black pepper powder. This is for the first time we have cooked curd rice in a strict south indian style and it tastes delectable.

Though this recipe is usually cooked with freshly made rice but the best part of the recipe is that you can utilize leftover cooked plain rice too.

Step wise pictorial recipe

  1. Take a bowl and add curd, salt and sugar in it. Give it a mix. You can skip or reduce the quantity of sugar if curd is sweet.
  2. Add cooked rice and mix again. Keep aside.
  3. In a pan, add oil, chana dal, curry leaves & red chillies and saute for a minute or until chana dal slightly changes its colour.
  4. Add milk and mix.
  5. When milk begins to boil, transfer this mixture into bowl carrying curd rice mixture.
  6. Add pomegranate ariels & mix. your curd rice is ready.

NOTE

  1. If you are preparing the rice specially to make this recipe, then cook them little extra so that they turn gooey.
  2. As already said, powdered sugar is added to balance the sourness, even slightest, in the curd. But if your curd is completely sweet, you can skip sugar.
  3. Similar is the role of milk. It can be dropped or quantity be reduced depending on the taste of curd.

For Curd Rice

  • 1 cup curd/yoghurt
  • 1 cup rice cooked
  • 1/2 tbsp split Bengal gram
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 5 curry leaves
  • 2 dry red chillies
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp pomegranate ariels

For Garnish

  • Pomegranate ariels
  • roasted cashews
