Air Fryer Asian cabbage rolls with step wise pictorial and video method.

VEGAN & GLUTEN FREE

Medley of vibrant Asian ingredients stuffed in tender cabbage leaves and then air fried to crisp and brown make a tongue tingling appetizer, called Cabbage Rolls.

These rolls are a great substitute to glutinous spring rolls made with all purpose flour and noodles.

Seasonal vegetables such as peas, carrot, capsicum, green beans and sweet potatoes incorporating ingredients commonly found in Asian cooking are made part of the stuffing.

The cabbage leaves, carefully blanched to a tender texture cradle a harmonious stuffing and summed up with air frying bring the overall mouthfeel of the cabbage rolls.

However it is not mandatory to follow the similar ingredients for making stuffing and you can go for anything you like.

The air fryer comes into play as the perfect tool to achieve that coveted golden-brown exterior, giving the cabbage rolls a delightful crunch while maintaining a juicy interior.

The air fryer’s efficiency in cooking comes from its ability to circulate hot air, creating a crispy exterior without the need for excessive oil. This not only aligns with a healthier cooking approach but also ensures that the flavors within the cabbage rolls remain vibrant and untainted.

Made with the Chinese origin soya sauce alongwith the bold flavors of garlic, ginger, vinegar, sesame oil & the touch of brown sugar, this savory, salty, and aromatic dip is enough to compliment the cabbage rolls.

Asian-inspired cabbage rolls in Air Fryer

STEP WISE PICTORIAL RECIPE OF AIR FRYER ASIAN CABBAGE ROLLS 

 

PREPARATION OF STUFFING

1. Add oil, cumin seeds, green chilies, garlic and ginger in a pan. The quantity of all the ingredients are given in the recipe card at the end of the post.

2. Let the ginger garlic turn slightly brown.

3. Add onion, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala and salt.

4. Saute till onion turns slightly brown.

5. Then add peas, capsicum, carrot, green beans and coriander leaves.

6. Saute on high heat for 2 minutes.

7. Add sweet potato.

8. Mash to coarse paste.

9. Lastly add lemon juice and mix.

10. Keep the stuffing aside and let it cool down completely.

PREPARING CABBAGE ROLL SHEETS

11. Take water and salt in a wide pan. Leave the water to boil.

12. Firstly cut the stem part of the cabbage.

13. Separate the leaves of the cabbage without tearing apart.

14. Trim off the hard part of the leaf otherwise it will be difficult to roll the leaf.

15. Put the leaves in boiling water and let boil for 4 minutes.

16. Bring them out.

17. Take about 2 tbsp of stuffing and place it at the corner of the leaf.

18. Carefully roll the leaf and tuck to create a neat bundle.

FOR AIR FRYING

19. Put the cabbage rolls in greased air fryer basket. Add only as much as can be accommodated without touching each other.

20. Brush them also with oil.

21. Air fry @180°C for 12 minutes.

22. Air fryer cabbage rolls are ready.

MAKING OF DIP

1. Take a small bowl and add soya sauce, white vinegar, sesame oil, red chilli flakes, brown sugar, ginger & garlic.

2. Give them a good mix and rest for 10 minutes so that all the flavours get infused in the sauce.

Enjoy the cabbage rolls after garnishing with white sesame seeds and coriander leaves with the soya sauce dip.

NOTES

  1. You can make any stuffing of your choice and it is not mandatory to fill the given stuffing only.
  2. Instead of air frying, you can bake shallow fry or even steam cook the cabbage rolls.

Ingredients
  

FOR CABBAGE ROLLS SHEET

  • 1 big cabbage
  • boiling water
  • 1/2 tsp salt

FOR STUFFING

  • Cabbage sheets
  • 1/2 cup carrot (finely shredded)
  • 1/2 cup green beans (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 cup capsicum (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 cup peas (boiled)
  • 1/2 cup onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 sweet potatoes (boiled)
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1 tsp garlic finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger finely chopped
  • Red chilli powder to taste
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Juice of half lemon
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves

FOR AIR FRYING

  • olive oil as needed

FOR GARNISH

  • some white sesame seeds
  • Coriander leaves

FOR DIP

  • 1 tbsp soya sauce
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli flakes
  • 1/4 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ginger (finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp garlic (crushed)

Instructions
