High Protein Yellow Moong Dal Appe with step wise pictorial and video method.
  
Appe, also called appam is a round shaped savory dumplings made in a specially designed pan having multiple round cavities in one pan. 
 
Made with different ingredients, this vegetarian high protein breakfast recipe is made with semolina and rice flour in general and many a times with lentils as well.
 
This is the time when everyone is looking for high protein diet, especially vegetarians, this moong dal appe with yellow lentils is one of the most suitable choice.
 
This entire batch of healthy moong dal snack recipe is having 55 gram protein and as the total number of appe came to 25, then each appe contains 2.2 grams of protein.
 
All thanks to humble yellow moong dal, which is a great source of protein. An everyday Indian pantry ingredient, which is so healthy, but unfortunately do underrated. 
 
Though it is just a dal but it’s versatility goes beyond moong dal tadka alone. Khichdi, cheela, dhokla and what not you can make with it.
 
Making these yellow moong dal appe for breakfast is indeed a fun way to serve health benefits of moong dal to kids in particular.
 
Not just a protein rich moong dal breakfast recipe, but this easy moong dal appe without fermentation is a great thing to serve as a tea time snack or in the tiffin as well.
   
 Not too elaborate but you just need a simple dip to enjoy these healthy appe, be it coconut chutney, green chutney, tomato chutney, pickle, or any preferred dip.

Step Wise Pictorial recipe of High Protein Yellow Moong Dal Appe

 
Wash and soak moong dal overnight.
 
Drain and add dal to a grinder jar.
 
Add ginger, green chilies, coriander stems, black pepper corns and curd.
 
Grind to a smooth paste and add to a bowl.
 
Then add semolina, onion (finely chopped),  carrot (grated), capsicum (finely chopped), coriander leaves, cumin seeds, turmeric powder and garam masala.
 
Give it a good mix.
 
Rest it for 10 minutes.
 
Then add baking soda and water over the soda.
 
Whisk it so well.
 
Drop bit of oil in each cavity of appe pan.
 
Brush to grease entire cavities.
 
Then add 5-7 mustard seeds and one curry leaf in cavity.
 
Over that, drop the moong dal batter upto 3/4th cavity.
 
Put a lid and let it cook on low heat for 4-5 minutes.
 
Thereafter turn the sides of each appe.
 
Cook for 5 minutes from other side as well.
 
Moong dal appe are ready. Enjoy hot with coconut chutney or any other dip of your choice.

  1. If you are short of time, you can soak dal for minimum 2 hours.
  2. This recipe can be made only in appam pan and in case you don’t own appam pan, you can make pancakes with the same batter or drop a dollop of batter in oil and deep fry them.

1 cup = 250 ml

  • 1 cup yellow moong dal
  • 2 green chilies
