Naan is a very popular South Asian (most particularly India) leavened flatbread made using all purpose flour (maida) and usually cooked in tandoor (clay oven).

Naan is traditionally cooked in clay oven (tandoor) which imparts a distinctive flavor and char to it but the clay oven is something not available at homes.
In the absence of clay oven, don’t think you can’t get to cherish this delicacy and if you have air fryer or oven at home, this recipe can be all yours.
Both air Fryer and oven make these naan so quickly and you have a naan in your plate in less than 5 minutes.
Though naan can be made on tawa as well, but that’s a time taking process and tiring too because you have to keep on holding the heavy tawa by turning upside down on stove.
In air fryer and oven, you just have to slide naan in the appliance and they are ready without any hardship on your part.
Furthermore, if talking about oven, it can make more than 1 naan in one go, which is not possible in air Fryer and tawa.

STEP WISE PICTORIAL RECIPE OF AIR FRYER NAAN RECIPE | BAKED NAAN RECIPE
ACTIVATING YEAST
1. Take 1/2 cup lukewarm water in a bowl and mix 2 tbsp sugar in it.
2. Mix until sugar dissolves.
3. Add 1 tsp dry active yeast and mix.
4. Put a lid and rest for 10-15 minutes.
5. After 15 minutes, you will see a frothy mixture over the surface of water. It’s a sign that yeast is activated. If yeast doesn’t activate, don’t go for further process.
MAKING OF DOUGH
6. Take 3 cup all purpose flour in a large and wide vessel.
7. Add 1/2 tsp salt and mix well.
8. Add activated yeast mixture.
9. Initially mix with hand without adding any additional water.
10. Then start adding water, little at a time and start assembling the flour.
11. Once assembled, add 1 tbsp of oil.
12. Now knead the dough for 5-7 minutes. Add water, if needed.
13. Grease a bowl and add dough in it. Also grease dough with oil.
14. Put a lid on the bowl and place the bowl at some warm place in the kitchen for 1:30 hours.
15. After the said period, you will find that dough has doubled in size.
16. Punch to release all the air inside and knead for a minute.
MAKING OF NAAN
17. Take a portion of dough and roll it into your palm.
18. Put it on a flour dusted surface.
19. Roll it. The shape of naan is usually oval.
20. Prick all over the surface using fork into prevent the naan from puffing up while air frying/baking.
21. Apply bit of water over the surface where naan is poked.
22. Sprinkle 2-3 pinches of Nigella seeds/kalonji and press gently.
COOKING IN AIR FRYER
23. Place the naan in an Air fryer basket.
24. Air fry for 5 minutes @180°C.
BAKING IN OVEN
25. Pre-heat the oven @180°C for 10 minutes with fan mode on. If your oven doesn’t have fan mode, just switch both rods on.
26. Place the naan on baking tray lined with aluminium foil or greased butter paper or silicon mat.
27. Place the tray on top rack of the oven.
28. Bake @180°C for 10 minutes.
SERVING
29. Once done, take the naan out if air fryer/oven.
30. Apply a mixture of melted butter and coriander leaves.
Serve hot.

- Water as required

- 2 tbsp Nigella seeds/Kalonji
- Dry flour for dusting as required
- water as required
- Butter as required (we used vegan butter)
- 2 tbsp coriander leaves (finely chopped)
