Soft and fluffy Omelette made without eggs is so delicious that it will hard to figure out for anyone that it is eggless.

We all are well versed with the world famous breakfast recipe Omelette made with eggs. But what if you are vegetarian or vegan?

Although one who has never eaten eggs in his entire life, probably will have no cravings for omelette but if you were egg eater earlier and transformed to vegetarian or veganism, then there’s little possibility that the taste of real omelette may give you a nostalgic vibes at times.

It is to be noted that in many countries, eggs are considered as vegetarian but in India, they are only treated as non-veg.

There was a time when my husband used to eat egg omelette and this was one of his favorite breakfast but after dropping eggs, he used to remind about its taste.

So I have tried this vegan Omelette whose taste is quite close to original omelette. It is worthwhile to mention here that do not hope to have exact and ditto taste of egg omelette but yes, texture and taste to a major extent are quite similar.

INGREDIENTS USED

GRAM FLOUR: Gram flour, also called Besan in Hindi is a flour of chana dal or split brown chickpeas. In place of gram flour, you can also use Chickpea flour, also called garbanzo flour which is made by grounding white chickpeas.

ALL PURPOSE FLOUR: All purpose flour or maida is must in this recipe. If you skip this ingredient, your dish will taste and textured like Besan ka chilla instead of omelette.

WATER : Water needs to be added here in such a quantity that you get a flow-y batter.

BAKING POWDER: Baking powder is a leavening agent which makes the omelette soft as well fluffy. In place of baking powder you can use ENO fruit salt also in the same quantity.

BUTTER : We have used vegan butter. Instead of butter, you can also use oil.

OTHER INGREDIENTS: other ingredients like green chili, onion, coriander leaves, black pepper and salt are also added in egg omelette, so obviously they play the similar role in vegan Omelette also. Although it is your choice what you want to have more or less in your omelette but as to me, onion is must as it delivers a crunch in every bite.

 

 

STEP WISE PICTORIAL RECIPE OF VEGAN OMELETTE RECIPE

  1.  Add gram flour and all purpose flour in a bowl.
  2. Add water and whisk for 5 minutes leaving no lumps.
  3. Now add salt, onion, green chili, coriander leaves and baking powder.
  4. Whisk them so well.
  5. Grease a non stick pan with butter.
  6. Pour the batter into the pan and sprinkle black pepper powder over it.
  7. Let it cook from one side for 2-3 minutes on moderate heat or until the omelette is firm enough to invert.
  8. Turn and cook it from other side too.
  9. Your vegan Omelette is ready. It is generally served hot with tomato ketchup

Ingredients
  

1 cup = 200 ml

  • 1/4 cup gram flour/Besan (50 gram for one omelette)
  • 1 tbsp All purpose flour/Maida
  • 1 green chilli (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves (chopped)
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • Few pinches of black pepper powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Butter (we used vegan butter)
  • 3/4 cup water

Instructions
 

  • Add gram flour and all purpose flour in a bowl.
  • Add water and whisk for 5 minutes leaving no lumps.
  • Now add salt, onion, green chilli, coriander leaves and baking powder.
  • Whisk them so well.
  • Grease a non stick pan with butter.
  • Pour the batter into the pan.
