Tofu Bounce Balls Recipe with step wise pictorial and video method.

Tofu Bounce Balls are a unique and innovative twist on traditional tofu appetizers. Where tofu is generally made by deep or shallow frying, this bouncy tofu balls recipe is innovative in a way that here the tofu is cooked by boiling.

Chew in mouthfeel, these tofu balls get the bouncy texture because of boiling, and cornflour also played it’s important roll in making  the tofu so bouncy.

This bouncy texture is something which makes this boiled tofu balls recipe so different. One thing more, boiling not only makes the balls bouncy, but also makes the recipe lighter, healthier & less oily.

Once the balls are ready, they are tossed in the routine flavourful chinese sauces, which adds real depth to them.

This is tough to explain the contrast between the delicate bounce of the tofu balls and the bold savory sauce in words. All we can say is that these vegan tofu balls in Chinese sauce are flavorful, saucy, spicy, and satisfying.

MAKING OF BALLS

First crumble tofu. Mash it with the heel of the palm so that there remains no lumps in tofu. Once tofu turns smooth, add oats flour, cornflour, salt, black pepper powder and red chilli flakes. Mix them so well. Now take a very small portion of mixture and by pressing it, make a smooth, crack free ball.  Make balls with the entire mixture and keep aside.

Now take water in a pan and put on heat. When water begins to boil, drop tofu balls but one by one. Initially they will sink to the base of the pan. In couple of minutes, they will start floating on the surface of the water. Once they begin to float, let them boil just for 2 minutes. Thereafter remove the balls out of water. Keep aside.

MAKING OF SAUCE 

Heat oil in a pan and add garlic and spring onion white. Saute until onion turns slightly brown. Add soy sauce, green or red chilli sauce and vinegar. Mix. Add salt. Mix. Keep in mind tofu balls and soy sauce are already having salt.

Add Tofu balls and gently mix them. Be careful not to break. Then add spring onion greens and just mix. Lastly add white sesame seeds.

NOTES

  1. Cracked balls may split in water and same happened to us as well with 2-3 balls. So it is necessary to make crack free balls.
  2. Oats flour is nothing but just the powered oats.
  3. Leftover water in which tofu balls are boiled, is not a waste. Use it for cooking rice, making lentils, kneading a dough or any way you like.

Ingredients
  

1 cup = 250 ml

FOR MAKING BALLS

  • 200 gram Tofu (firm)
  • 3 tbsp oats flour
  • 2 tbsp cornflour
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chilli flakes
  • Water as required

FOR MAKING SAUCE

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 7-8 garlic cloves (chopped)
  • 1/2 spring onion white
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp green or red chilli sauce
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 spring onion greens
  • White sesame seeds for garnish
