STEP WISE PICTORIAL RECIPE OF MASALA IDLI RECIPE WITH VEGETABLES

 

For this recipe, take idlis which are plain, either it be rawa idli or rice flour idli. However we used these idlis for this recipe. Quantity of idlis and other ingredients is given in the recipe card below. Chop the idlis in bite sizes. Keep aside.

Take oil in a pan and when it’s hot, add mustard seeds. Let them crackle. Then add green chilies and curry leaves. Roast for couple of seconds.

Masala idli recipe with vegetables

Add onion, carrot, capsicum and cabbage. Also add spices i.e. salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and sambar powder. If you don’t have sambar powder, then add pav bhaji masala or garam masala.

Saute on high heat for 2-3 minutes. Veggies should turn soft but don’t let them loose their crunch.

Then add tomato ketchup. Finally add the chopped idli, water, lemon juice and coriander leaves. Mix well.

Serve hot.

Ingredients
  

  • 26 idlis (plain)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp mustard seeds
  • 2 green chilies (chopped)
  • 7-8 curry leaves (fresh or dried)
  • 2 onions (finely chopped)
  • 2-3 carrot (cut into juliennes)
  • 1/2 cup capsicum (cut into juliennes)
  • 1 cup cabbage (thinly chopped)
  • Salt to taste
  • Red chilli powder to taste
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp sambar masala (or pav bhaji masala or garam masala)
  • 2 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves
