Having one of the largest dining chains in India, Barbeque Nation is a famous restaurant which serves this recipe as an appetizer/starter.

This is such a delicious crispy corn recipe that if you begin to eat once, it becomes difficult for you to move on to another food item placed on the table.

Flour coated deep fried corns and seasoned with regular spices is the show stopper recipe of BBQ Nation and is being loved equally by kids as well as adults.

If you are asked to pick any one from “tasty” and “healthy”, we are sure 99% will vote for “healthy”.

This is the difference in food served in restaurants and your own cooked.

Restaurants will choose the tasty one whereas at home, you will keep both in mind, probably taking “healthy” on upper edge.

Likewise we did the same and for the said reason, tweaked the recipe.

Yes, the original recipe asks for deep frying of corns in lots of oil, which we refused to obey and hence tried this recipe in microwave.

We had this crispy fried corn barbeque nation recipe years ago when we visited Barbeque Nation to celebrate a birthday and being an appetizer, it was served to us in the beginning.

Immediately after cherishing few of the spoons, we had made up our mind to try it at home.

We weren’t sure what ingredients they exactly used to make this amazing starter called crispy corn bbq nation recipe but when we made it, they were quite close to the real one.

Though the deep fried one are more tasty than the baked one but nothing is above health. But feel free to try the deep fried version too.

Although this is designated as an appetizer only, but you can look upon this as one of the easy, healthy and delicious corn recipes for breakfast, amongest all the corn recipes Indian.

HOW TO DEEP FRY THESE CORNS?

You need not to make any changes in the ingredients for deep frying the corns. But just follow few tips to make this recipe perfect :

Just add corn flour, rice flour and salt to coat the corns. No seasoning required. Season only once they are out after frying.

Sieve the excess flour so that the oil doesn’t become floury.

Fry the corns in very hot oil to get the perfect crunchy texture.

You can also double fry the corns for the crispier one. Fry coated corns only for a minute in very hot oil. Take them out and then re-fry again in extremely hot oil till crisp.

HOW TO SERVE CRISPY CORNS?

Remember, serve them only when they are hot or atleast warm. Once they cool down, they will turn soggy and as such they will become tasteless.

STEP WISE PICTORIAL METHOD OF crispy corn bbq nation style

 

  1. Boil 2 cups of water in a pan and add corns.
  2. Let corns boil for 8 to 10 minutes or until they turn soft and tender.
  3. Pass corns through a sieve so that water drains.
  4. Pour some water over the hot corns to stop their cooking process.
  5. Shift corns in a bowl.
  6. Add corn starch and mix using fork.
  7. After this, add rice flour and mix it too using fork so that corns get coated.
  8. Then add red chilli powder, black pepper powder and salt.
  9. Mix so that everything gets stick to the corns.
  10. Add 1 tbsp of oil and mix well.
  11. Transfer corns in a greased baking tray and arrange them properly so that they shouldn’t overlap each other.
  12. Bake in preheated microwave on convection mode @200°C for 25 minutes. You can make crispy corn recipe in oven also at the similar time and temperature in the middle rack with both the rods on. Also feel free to make crispy corn in airfryer too.
  13. Take corns out and transfer to a bowl.
  14. Add chaat masala, cumin powder, lemon juice, onion and coriander leaves/cilantro.
  15. Mix well.

NOTES

  1. You can use frozen as well as fresh sweetcorns for this recipe. Fresh one needs to be boiled for a longer time until they turn soft and tender to eat, whereas frozen one needs just thawing.
  2. In addition to rice flour and cornflour, you can add all purpose flour too. Alternative you can make crispy corn without corn flour just by adding all purpose flour and rice flour.

  • 1/4 tsp Cumin powder roasted
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp + few drops of Oil
  • 1 tbsp onion finely chopped
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves/cilantro
  • 2 cups + some extra Water
