Bharwa Shimla Mirch in air fryer | Stuffed capsicum air fryer recipe with step wise pictorial and video method.

Bharwa Shimla Mirch is a popular Punjabi dish made by filling the hollow bell peppers with the potato stuffing and then shallow fried.

“Bharwan” means “filled or stuffed” and “Shimla Mirch” is the Hindi name for “Capsicum”.

This dish is usually prepared by shallow frying the stuffed capsicum but to make it more healthy, we have air fried them, which took just few drops of oil.

TYPES OF STUFFING

 

In India, this dish is prepared by filling the boiled and mashed potatoes primarily but at the world level, this dish is also prepared with different variations.

Colourful bell peppers are stuffed with either meat, cheese, veggies, rice or even noodles.

You may go to the extent of filling paneer, other vegetables like carrots, cauliflower, sweet corn or sweet potato.

The list may go endless. Meaning thereby, there’s no limit to imaginations and you can go on with anything you like.

 

STEP WISE PICTORIAL RECIPE OF BHARWA SHIMLA MIRCH IN AIR FRYER

 

1.Add oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

2. Add green chilies and onion.

3. Let onion turn pink and translucent.

4. Add salt, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and dry mango powder. Saute.

5. Now add potatoes & mash them with a masher.

6. Mix well after adding coriander leaves.

7. Keep aside for cooling down completely.

8. In the meantime, rinse the capsicum thoroughly and slice off the tops. (Watch video attached to this post for better understanding).

9. Remove the pith and seeds using knife or back of the spoon to make capsicum completely hollow.

10. Capsicum will look like this as shown in picture below.

11. Now fill the capsicum with potato stuffing.

12. Arrange all the capsicums in air fryer basket and brush or spray oil over them.

 

Air fry @180°C/356°F for 15-20 minutes or until done.

Stuffed capsicum is ready. Enjoy.

NOTES

  1. If the size of capsicum is too big, then you can cut them into two halves
  2. There are other ways too to cut the capsicum but we prefer the given one because this way, not even an iota of capsicum goes waste.
  3. You may use bell peppers of any colour.
  4. Instead of potatoes, you may choose any filling of your choice.
  5. It is up to your wisdom that how much potatoes are required for how many capsicum.
  6. If don’t have air fryer, you can shallow fry the capsicum. Yes, you need to keep on shifting the sides at intervals until they are completely cooked.
  7. Stuffed capsicum/bell peppers can also be baked in oven.

Ingredients
  

  • 6-7 Capsicum (medium sized - you can use bell peppers as well)
  • 3-4 boiled potatoes (medium sized)
  • 1 tbsp oil + little more for brushing
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 green chilies (finely chopped)
  • 1 onion (thinly chopped)
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • Red chilli powder to taste
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp dry mango powder or lemon juice as per taste
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves (thinly chopped)

Instructions
