Making Curd with milk powder with the easy and convenient way to make curd, quite contrary to traditional method.
Generally curd is made with milk itself but one day we were running out of milk and then thought of seeing the help of milk power to make it and the results surprised us.
The curd turned out to be too good, much better than the one we make with regular milk.
There may be a question in few minds that why to dance over such recipe when making curd with regular milk is more easy and convenient but to sum up, let us explain some of the benefits :
Firstly, we loved the consistency and texture of curd made with powdered milk. It was more firm and delicious than the milk based curd.
Secondly, this is within your domain to fix the consistency of the curd. Meaning thereby, if you want your curd to be much more thicker, then you can enhance the quantity of the milk powder, where as it is not possible in case of regular milk card.
This is a great hack for the people who travel or live in areas with irregular milk supply.
In case of regular milk curd, you need to have the fresh milk everytime you want to set the card,but in this case, the milk powder’s shelf life is much more longer than the milk. So whenever you want to set the curd, no need to rush for the fresh milk because powdered milk is conveniently there in your pantry.
This recipes is also a myth breaker that only and only the fresh milk gives the perfect curd. Whereas we have personally experienced that the curd made will milk powder is more thick, more creamy and more tasty. So if you are looking for a curd for making sweet recipes, then milk powder’s curd should be preferred than the milk based curd.
If talking about the taste of this curd, it was naturally sweet and not at all tangy or sour. What to say of freshly made curd, but it remained the same even after 3-4 days.
FEW TIPS TO MAKE PERFECT YOGURT WITH MILK POWDER
Use only full fat milk powder.
Do not add entire powder in water in one go. Add gradually.
While adding milk powder, stir the water simultaneously to prevent formation of lumps.
Make sure the curd starter should also be fresh and not sour because sour starter makes a sour yogurt.
We have added half cup of milk powder in 500 ml of water and the consistency of the curd was normal. But in case you want to set the curd much more thick & tight, you can and enhance the quantity of milk powder.
So go ahead and if you have never tried making curd with milk powder, give it a shot.
STEP WISE PICTORIAL RECIPE OF HOMEMADE CURD WITH MILK POWDER
Take a pan and add water in it. Then add milk powder, but little at a time.
Whisk until there remains no lumps. Likewise add the entire milk powder while whisking to prevent the formation of lumps.
Put the pan on heat. Give it a boil. Do whisk at intervals to prevent the milk powder sitting at the bottom of the pan.
Remove the pan from the heat and leave aside to down the temperature. Milk should come to lukewarm which you can check by putting finger.
Transfer the milk in a pot in which you want to set the curd. Clay/earthen pot is the best to set the curd but you can also use ceramic, glass or stainless steel container with a lid. But don’t use plastic and aluminium.
Add a tsp of curd and mix.
Put a lid or cloth or both and place the pot at some warm and undisturbed place in the kitchen for overnight or for 7-8 hours.
And the curd/yogurt is ready.
Use the way you like or place in refrigerator.

Ingredients
1 cup = 250 ml
- 500 ml water
- 1/2 cup milk powder (fill fat)
- 1 tsp curd (as a starter)
Instructions
- Take a pan and add water in it.
- Then add milk powder, but little at a time.
