Custard Cake delight recipe with step wise pictorial and video method.
Cake infused custard prepared with simple ingredients makes a delectable treat, which is a mix of dessert cum drink.
We literally don’t know that there’s any such treat exists or not, because we had this treat at some relatives home years ago. It was such a delicious that we thought of recreating it at home, but couldn’t do it for such a long time for no reason.
Though there’s custard cake, custard bread pudding and cake custard trifle recipe in existence, but they are way different asking for cake, custard, whipping cream and lots of fruit and time alongwith money as well.
From being economical in comparison to above mentioned star studded desserts, the present recipe is versatile as well. You can make any combo of flavours by adding different flavoured cake to different flavoured custards.
Also, to save your time, you can always bring the readymade bread cake from the market. What we ate at our relatives place was the slices of Britannia fruit cake being infused into custard.
To make this recipe, nothing complicated needs to be done. Just cake, custard and bit of topping. That’s it.
Yes, what you need to keep in mind that custard shouldn’t be cooked to a thick consistency like that of regular custard eaten alone or with nuts.
The problem with the thick custard will be that it will be tough to introduce itself inside the cake slices. While eating the dessert, you will feel as if you are eating cake and custard separately with no taste of one in another.
Also this is the nature of custard that it gets thick after chilling in refrigerator.
If talking about topping or garnish, though this can be served without garnish but the dish looks less inviting or we would say almost bland. So never miss to do this styling which needs just little things and that too of your choice. We added tutti fruity, pomegranate ariels, chopped nuts and silver balls. Go for anything you want or you love or you have.
So do try this easy and simple dessert which is an amalgamation of cake and custard.
STEP WISE PICTORIAL RECIPE OF CUSTARD CAKE DELIGHT RECIPE
MAKING OF CAKE
1.Take a bowl and add curd and baking soda. Quantity of both the ingredients is given in the recipe card below.
2. Mix well, rest for 5 minutes and then add oil and powdered sugar. Mix.
3. Also add both the essences. If you don’t have both these essences, then add vanilla essence.
4. Put a sieve on the bowl and add flour, milk powder, baking powder and salt.
5. Sift into the bowl.
6. Mix 1 tsp of flour into tutti fruity.
7. Add to the bowl. Mix well.
8. Pour into the greased cake tin and bake @180°C for 35-40 minutes.
9. Let cake cool down completely.
PREPARING CUSTARD
10. Take milk in a heavy bottomed pan and put on heat.
11. Take custard powder in a small bowl and when the milk turns luke warm, take out about 1/4 cup of milk and add to custard powder.
12. Mix well leaving no lumps and add custard paste to the bowl.
13. Also add sugar. Mix well.
14. Let it simmer for 10 minutes or until turns slightly thick. Then take it off the heat and let cool completely.
TIME TO CHILL
15. You can do this step either directly in the custard pan itself or inside serving glasses. However we are doing in serving glasses. For this, Cut the cake into bite size pieces.
16. Put some of the pieces in serving glass or bowl.
17. Pour the custard over the cake bites.
18. Top with anything you want. We used chopped almonds, cashews, pistachios, tutti fruity, pomegranate ariels and silver balls.
19. Put in the refrigerator until chilled and also cakes pieces will also absorb some of the custard. Enjoy chilled.
NOTE : Instead of chilling the cake pieces and custard in individual serving glasses, put all cake pieces in entire custard, chill and then add to serving glasses for chilling.
NOTES
- You can use any bread cake and custard flavour for this recipe.
- Even the readymade Britannia cakes will also do.
- You can even try matching different flavours of cake and custard in a dish. Like chocolate cake or vanilla cake in strawberry custard and many more.

Ingredients
FOR CAKE
- 1 + 1/4 cup All Purpose Flour/maida (177 gram)
- 3/4 cup Powdered Sugar (173 gram)
- 1/4 cup Milk powder (36 gram)
- 1/2 cup Oil
- 1/2 tsp Pineapple Essence
- 1/2 tsp Orange essence
- 1 cup Curd (at room temp)
- 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/2 cup Tutti Fruity (75 gram)
- 1 tsp all purpose flour
- Salt a pinch
FOR CUSTARD
- 1.5 litre full fat milk
- 1/4 cup custard powder
- 3/4 cup sugar (or as per taste)
FOR TOPPING
- Anything you like (we used chopped nuts, tutti fruity, pomegranate and silver balls)
Instructions
