Cucumber cake recipe | no bake cucumber cake | tavsali recipe with step wise pictorial and video method.
Tavsali recipe is the traditional recipe from goan belt & popularly known with the name tavsali. This recipe is unique due to the amalgamation of cucumber and cake which is a very uncommon combination.
Furthermore, what makes this cake recipe different from other cakes is that this one is prepared by steaming instead of baking. So this is a beneficial recipe for those too without oven.
We tried this recipe for the first time but were little reluctant in tasting it due to weird addition of cucumber in cake but to our utter surprise, it was extremely delectable.
Yes, the flavour of cucumber overpowered other flavours but this cake is like this only. Meaning thereby, if you love cucumber, then this cake is for you only.

Step wise pictorial recipe
- Grate cucumber and squeeze it. But don’t throw the squeezed water.
- In a pan add desi ghee and semolina.
- Roast semolina till it slightly changes colour.
- Lower the heat & add grated cucumber.
- Now make 1 cup of water including squeezed one. If the squeezed water is less than one cup, then add simple water to the cucumber water to make it one.
- Add water to the pan & mix well.
- Add grated Jaggery & pinch of salt.
- When Jaggery melts, add cardamom powder and nutmeg powder. Mix.
- Let it cook for some time till the time mixture starts leaving the pan.
- Now spread the mixture in a greased tin & place the tin in a steamer.
- Steam the mixture for 15 minutes & then take the tin out of steamer.
- Once cool down completely, bring the cake out of tin.
- Cut into pieces of desired size & enjoy.

Ingredients
- 1 cup cucumber grated
- 1 cup suji/semolina
- 1 cup Jaggery
- 1 tbsp desi ghee (oil, if vegan)
- Salt a pinch
- 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
- Pinch of nutmeg powder
- 1 cup water including squeezed water from cucumber
Instructions
