Gond ki Raab recipe with step wise pictorial and video method.

Gond is edible gum and Raab means warm drink in gujarati.

So gond ki Raab is a traditional gujrati drink mainly made using gond/edible, ghee, flour, sweetener and water.

The consistency of this drink is like a porridge and taste is sweet.

But make sure the gond you are using here is the one which is used in making gond k ladoo or gond k biscuits and not that gond katira, which is used in summers.

Gond ki Raab, which is a must have drink during winters, has the following benefits:

1. An instant energy booster.

2. Builds immunity, strengthens bones, relieves cold and joint pain.

3. Perfect recipe for new mothers to bounce back to their fit life.

This drink is consumed by Jain community for breaking the fast during the Paryushan festival.

There are many other ingredients which can be added or substituted as per your convenience.

Like wheat flour can be replaced with bajra flour or ragi flour. This substitution will make this drink Gluten-free.

Additionally you can add black pepper powder and carom seeds (ajwain), if treating for cold.

Also you can add cloves, poppy seeds and ganthoda powder/piprimul powder.

If you are running out of jaggery, then you can add sugar as well, though not recommended in this healthy drink.

Sometimes you don’t get a good quality of jaggery and there’s a possibility of having impurities in it.

In that case, you can boil water separately and melt jaggery in it.

Only then pour the jaggery water in the pan in which you are making Raab.

 

 

Gond ki raab recipe

STEP WISE PICTORIAL RECIPE OF GOND KI RAAB RECIPE

1. Take a pan and add desi ghee in it.

2. Add gond and roast it on low heat until it turns slightly puffed up and translucent.

3. Take the gond out of the pan.

4. Add flour in the remaining ghee and roast on low heat until slightly brown.

5. Add water gradually by stirring throughout otherwise lumps may be formed.

6. When flour is thoroughly mixed with water, add gond and let simmer so that gond begins to dissolve.

7. Also add jaggery, dry ginger powder and cinnamon powder. Mix

8. Let gond and jaggery completely dissolve.

9. Add cardamom powder, almonds, saffron and coconut. Mix well.

10. Give a slight boil for a minute.

Gond ki Raab is ready. Serve hot.

Ingredients
  

1 cup = 250 ml

  • 1.5 tbsp gond/edible gum
  • 1 tbsp desi ghee
  • 2 tbsp whole wheat flour
  • 1.5 cup/375 ml water
  • 3 tbsp Jaggery/gud
  • 1/4 tsp dry ginger powder/sonth
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  • Pinch of cinnamon powder
  • 2 tbsp desiccated or grated coconut
  • 2 tbsp almond slivers
  • Few strands of saffron

Instructions
 

  • Take a pan and add desi ghee in it.
  • Add gond and roast it on low heat until it turns slightly puffed up and translucent.
  • Take the gond out of the pan.
  • Add flour in the remaining ghee and roast on low heat until slightly brown.
  • Add water gradually by stirring throughout otherwise lumps may be formed.
