FAQ’s

WHAT IS MOHABBAT KA SHARBAT?

Mohabbat means “Love” & Sharbat stands for “Drink“.

Mohabbat ka Sharbat is a unique and refreshing beverage traditionally consists of chilled milk, rose syrup and chunks of watermelon, making it a perfect cooling concoction for the hot summer months.

WHAT IS THE ORIGIN & HISTORY OF MOHABBAT KA SHARBAT?

This interesting drink was invented by one Nawab Qureshi hailing from Lucknow in the year 2000.

Nawab Qureshi was actually from Lucknow who wandered around Delhi  and in memory of their love, he started Mohabbat ka sharbat. That’s when Mohabbat ka sharbat is introduced in Delhi.

Now this drink has its roots in the bustling streets of Old Delhi, India, especially famous in the area around Jama Masjid, one of Delhi’s most iconic landmarks.

Over the time, Mohabbat ka Sharbat has gained popularity beyond Delhi, becoming a cherished part of Delhi’s culinary culture. It is often enjoyed during Ramadan and other festive occasions, symbolizing hospitality and the warmth of sharing a delicious treat with loved ones.

WHAT CHANGES I CAN MAKE TO MOHABBAT KA SHARBAT?

If you go by the strict traditional method, then there’s only milk, rooh afza, sugar or sugar syrup, ice and rose petals.

But when you try a recipe at home, you are not bound by the traditional limitations but can go for anything to make your drink healthy and delicious.

Recipe shared in the given post has basil seeds, which, besides aiding digestion provides a cooling effect on the body.

In addition to that, vanilla icecream has always been a rich experience, be you add it to mango mastani, cold coffee or mohabbat ka sharbat.

Topping the nuts on a final dish will not only enhance the look but taste a like.

Also, we haven’t added separate sugar but enhanced the quantity of rooh afza. If really don’t want to add extra rooh afza, then add some sugar. Look at the end, the drink has to be enough sweet, so whatever be the ratio of rooh afza, sugar and ice cream, though ice cream is optional.

WHAT ARE VEGAN OPTIONS FOR MOHABBAT KA SHARBAT OPTIONS?

This recipe has two dairy products: milk & ice cream.

You can replace milk with coconut milk, almond milk or cashew milk and dairy ice cream with plant based ice cream.

However, in case you don’t get vegan ice cream, you can simple skip it and adjust the sweetness with sugar or rooh afza. Otherwise also, ice cream is optional.

RAW OR BOILED – WHICH MILK IS USED IN MOHABBAT KA SHARBAT?

If you ask for the milk which is used in making the drink traditionally, it is that red boxed Amul Milk, popularly called by the name Amul Gold.

And the milk is used raw.

While this drink was being made, this thought was running into mind that it seems very weird to drink raw milk and probably we will not be able to drink it but when the drink was finally made and tasted, it was such a delicious that we didn’t feel any rawness.

However if you really feel that you can’t have it raw, simply boil the milk, let it cool completely then make a drink.

So, whatever milk you use, prefer to use the whole one for better taste.
