It is such a yummy dessert which can be made with an ease. regular halwa of besan is made using milk but as we are having leftover residue after making desi ghee, also named as khoya, we have not used the milk. still the consistency and texture of this besan halwa is perfectly fine.

however this is not a compulsion to use ghee residue. if you are making this halwa not having ghee residue in hand, add about 1.5 to 2 cups of milk.

if there’s a question in your mind about the difference between halwa & sheera, let us make it clear that the difference between the both lies in their consistency only. when it is little thick, this is halwa & when it is thin & having flowing consistency, it is sheera. moreover at different states & cities, one thing is called differently hence not a big deal.

so if you want halwa (with milk), then add less milk & for sheera, add more. furthermore, besan ka sheera is considered as a good cold remedy during winters. serve hot before going for sleep at night.

so either with ghee residue or with milk, in any case besan ka halwa or besan ka sheera has the potential to make you happy.

Step wise pictorial method of besan ka halwa with ghee residue

1. add sugar and cardamoms in a blender & blend them into powder. Keep aside.

2. add desi ghee in a pan on low flame.

3. add gram flour & mix well.

4. roast the gram flour while stirring constantly for about 10 – 12 minutes until it releases nice aroma.

5. add desi ghee residue in it. mix well.

6. add powdered sugar and mix properly.

besan ka halwa made with desi ghee residue is ready. Serve hot after garnishing with dry fruits of your choice. you can mix some of the nuts while preparing too.

NOTES

  1. as already stated, if making it without leftover desi ghee residue, then add milk in a quantity which brings your desired consistency.
  2. sugar is added after grinding because the granulated sugar doesn’t melt properly in halwa

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup besan / chickpea flour / gram flour
  • 1/4 cup desi ghee
  • 1 cup desi ghee residue
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6-7 cardamoms

Instructions
 

  • add sugar and cardamoms in a blender & blend them into powder. Keep aside.
  • add desi ghee in a pan on low flame.
  • add gram flour & mix well.
  • roast the gram flour while stirring constantly for about 10 - 12 minutes until it releases nice aroma.
  • switch off the flame & add desi ghee residue in it. mix well.
  • add powdered sugar and mix properly.
  • besan ka halwa made with desi ghee residue is ready. Serve hot after garnishing with dry fruits of your choice. you can mix some of the nuts while preparing too.
