Sattu drink premix | Sattu sweet and savoury drink | Sattu Ka Sharbat is a much needed premix recipe badly needed when summers are on their peak. The reason being Sattu has all the abilities to refresh our body by cooling it from within. Sattu Ka Sharbat is commonly sold by vendors and is very much famous in the states of Bihar, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, UP, and West Bengal.
If you are not aware what Sattu is, let us tell you that Sattu is a flour made by grinding some of the dry roasted pulses, more particularly bengal gram. Somewhere Sattu is made with chickpeas & barley too.
Sattu, a power packed food, is loaded with tons of health benefits. It not only quenches your thrust but It provides energy to the body also being rich in proteins. Being high on insoluble fiber, it is good for the intestines and as such a big reliever from constipation and acidity.
On the other hand, being low on glycemic index, beneficial for diabetics. It keeps the skin hydrated and provides nourishment to the hair. Sattu is also helpful in regulating the blood pressure. It is a good source of iron, manganese, and magnesium but low on sodium
In the present recipe, we are using sattu made of dry roasted chickpeas, commonly known as kaale chane (black chickpeas).
Sattu flour is also easily available in the market but we preferred to make the flour on our own. Yes, we didn’t roast chickpeas but brought pre-roasted one. Also we have prepared the premix for Sattu Ka Sharbat.
When you reach home coated with profuse sweating, you don’t feel like going to kitchen and prepare a glass of Sharbat for you by adding all ingredients one after another. That is the high time when you require something already prepared so that you can gobble at once.
Keep that into mind, we have prepared the premixes, both sweet and savoury. If you like the sweet one, go for it & if for being diabetic or any other reason, you can’t or don’t want to have sweet one, go for savoury.
So here the recipe for both sweet and savoury premix.

Step wise pictorial recipe of sattu drink premix
- Take 1 cup heaped dry roasted chane/chickpeas.
- Remove their skin.
- Divide the chane in 2 seperate bowls i.e. 1/2 cup in one bowl & 1/2 cup in second. One for making sweet premix & other for savoury premix.
MAKING OF SATTU SWEET PREMIX
- In one bowl, in which 1/2 cup chane are placed, add 1/2 cup of sugar.
- Add dry mint leaves and black salt.
- Grind them to a fine powder.
- Your Sattu sweet premix is ready.
MAKING OF SATTU SAVOURY PREMIX
- In second bowl, in which also 1/2 cup chane are kept, add black salt.
- Also add dry mint leaves and dry roasted cumin seeds.
- Grind them to a fine powder.
- Your Sattu savoury premix is ready.
PREPARATION OF SATTU SWEET SHARBAT (1 glass)
- Take a serving glass & add 2 tbsp of sweet premix.
- Squeeze half of the lemon.
- Add chilled water & ice cubes. Mix.
Serve chilled.
PREPARATION OF SATTU SAVOURY SHARBAT (1 glass)
- Take a serving glass & add 2 tbsp of savoury premix.
- Squeeze half of the lemon.
- Add chilled water & ice cubes. Mix
- Garnish with fresh mint leaves.
Serve chilled.
NOTES
- Store the sattu drink premix in a air tight container. It will remain good for couple of months.
- Before serving sharbat, do taste the seasoning and adjust if something lacks.
- After grinding Sattu mixture, you can also sieve it for more smooth texture.
- For drying mint leaves, firstly wash the fresh mint leaves and then keep them under the fan for couple of hours.

- 1/2 cup roasted chane black chickpeas
- 1/4 cup dry mint leaves
- 7 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp black salt

- 2 tbsp sattu sweet premix recently prepared
- Juice of half lemon optional
FOR SAVOURY SATTU SHARBAT PREMIX

- 1.5 tbsp cumin seeds dry roasted
- 2 tbsp black salt
