How to Store Coriander leaves/Cilantro for long & use its stems?
This is one of the best way to store and utilise coriander leaves along with its stems.
Although you will find 100 ways to store coriander leaves and even we have one recipe on how to store coriander leaves for an year but you will hardly find any recipe to utilise it’s stems and these pitty stems always go into the dustbin.
Undoubtedly this thought must be arising in your mind that for what to go through this hassle if you can directly use the fresh one from the garden.
The answer to the above query is that not everyone has the facility to grow their own plants at home for various reasons and most of the people, like us, buy the coriander from the vegetable market. And it is not possible to ask for just 10-12 leaves…lol.
We don’t get free coriander along with other vegetables like it happens at many places, so we specially need to buy a bunch for Rs. 20/-.
We use the coriander leaves for 2-3 days and thereafter it begins to wilt and goes to bin.
Supposing even if entire batch of leaves are being used, yet the stems are never used by anyone and they are always thrown out.
But with the given method, you will not be able to use the leaves but the stems also in its entirety.
STEP WISE PICTORIAL METHOD OF STORING CORIANDER LEAVES AND USING STEMS
FOR STORING LEAVES
1.Firstly pluck the leaves from the stems.
2. Wash the leaves very well.
3. Roughly chop them. You can use knife for the purpose. However we did it with the hand itself.
4. Put the chopped leaves in each cavity of ice cube tray.
5. Pour water in each cavity.
6. Freeze.
7. Whenever required, take out a cube and put in the vegetable/curry you are cooking.
FOR USING STEMS
1.Cut the roots and wash the stems very well.
2. Put them in a grinder along with dry pomegranate seeds/anardana, green chilies, onion, sugar, salt and water.
3. Grind to a smooth paste.
4. Chutney out of coriander stems is ready. Enjoy.
NOTES
Instead of washing the leaves after plucking, you can first wash the whole bunch and thereafter pluck the leaves. Do as per your convenience.

Ingredients
FOR STORING LEAVES
- 2 bunches coriander leaves/cilantro (about 300 grams)
- Water as required
FOR USING STEMS
- Leftover Stems
- 2 tbsp dry pomegranate seeds/anardana
- 2 green chilies
- 1 small onion
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp water
Instructions
