INGREDIENTS USED IN MAKING VEGAN STRAWBERRY GLAZED TOFU RECIPE:
STRAWBERRIES: strawberries are the star ingredient of this recipe so choose them wisely. Prefer to use fresh, ripe and red strawberries as these are more flavorful. Pick the one that are firm yet juicy as they may yield the best texture for the sauce.
If fresh strawberries aren’t available, high-quality frozen strawberries can also work, as they are typically frozen at peak ripeness and retain a lot of flavor.
TOFU : Only use extra firm Tofu to make this recipe. Better to drain the tofu and press it to remove excess moisture. This can be done by wrapping the tofu in clean kitchen towel and placing a weight on top for above 15-20 minutes. In case you have the Tofu press, that’s great.
OIL : We have used coconut oil to make this recipe. Instead you can go for avocado oil or any other neutral taste oil.
APPLE : To balance the sharpness of strawberry, we have added apple as well but very little, almost just half of it is a big one and full, in case it is small.
But in case you have apple sauce, go for it instead of apple but apple sauce has to be unsweetened.
RED HOT CHILI PEPPER : There’s just one chili in it and as such it’s not going to be hot at all but in case you really don’t want this to be spicy at all, remove the seeds of chili before adding.
ONION : We were having onions so added one. Otherwise if you dislike the sharpness of onion, go for shallot. They are slightly sweeter in comparison to onions.
STEP WISE PICTORIAL RECIPE OF VEGAN STRAWBERRY GLAZED TOFU RECIPE :
WASHING OF STRAWBERRIES
Add water, baking soda, vinegar and strawberries in a bowl. Mix.
Rest for 10 minutes and thereafter gently rub to clean.
Discard the dirty water and wash strawberries very well. Finely chop them.
MAKING OF SAUCE
Heat coconut oil in a pan. Add onion, ginger and hot chilli pepper. Cook until onion turns translucent and soft.
Add strawberry, apple (or apple sauce), sea salt and lemon juice.
Initially keep the heat to high and when it begins to boil, cover the pan, lower the heat and let it cook for 15-20 minutes.
Cook until it reaches sauce consistency.
Remove it from the heat and cool completely.
Grind to a fine puree.
GRILLING TOFU
Cut tofu into steaks and poke them with skewer.
Toss them in cornflour.
Apply sauce on the top of the tofu steak.
Place this tofu steak on a greased grill pan with the sauce side downwards.
Apply sauce on the top side of tofu steak while it is being grilling underneath.
Grill on low heat for 5-6 minutes or until tofu steak get the grill marks from one side. Once it is done from top and bottom, grill it from the sides as well by applying sauce.
SERVING
Serve it with rice after garnishing with lemon zest, coriander, sea salt and almond slivers. Also serve along with, if the sauce too is left.
NOTES
- Make sure tofu is not much moist otherwise it will not hold back the sauce.
- Sauce has to be really thick to stay on tofu.
- Cornflour step is important and it will help the moist (bit of) tofu to hold sauce.
- If you don’t have a grill pan, just roast tofu on skillet.

Vegan Strawberry Glazed Tofu Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup = 250 gram
FOR WASHING STRAWBERRIES
- 2 cups strawberries
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- Water
FOR SAUCE
- 2 tbsp coconut oil or any neutral oil
- 1 small apple (cut into pieces or 1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce)
- 1 red hot chilli pepper
- 1 onion (chopped)
- 1 tbsp ginger (chopped)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
FOR GRILLING TOFU
- 14 ounce/400 gram extra firm tofu
- Cornflour as per need
FOR GARNISH
- Lemon zest
- Coriander leaves
- Roasted strawberries
- Sea salt
- Almond slivers
- Sea salt as per taste
Instructions
