Be it your soups or sauces, garlic and onion powder have special place in them. These 2 are such ingredients which bring unique taste and aroma in your dish, which can’t be obtained through the fresh ingredients.
List of dishes cannot be confined wherein you can use these 2 ingredients. Take the liberty and use wherever you feel they can take your dish to another level.
We are, here, making a very very small batch of onion and garlic powder for making cajun potatoes. You make it in a quantity you feel as per your needs.
DIFFERENT METHODS OF MAKING ONION AND GARLIC POWDER
There are 3 ways to make these powders.
1. DEHYDRATOR
If you have a dehydrator, these powders can be made easily but every home doesn’t have dehydrators. So this method is available to very few.
2. SUN DRIED
This is the most simple and convenient method to dry fresh ingredients but only draw back is it takes days to get the final product.
At times, whether conditions are not favourable especially during monsoons and winters.
But if you wanna opt this method, then just place the chopped onion and garlic under the sun for 5 to 6 days or until they turn completely dry.
3. OVEN
For us, oven was the best option. No looking for dehydrator and no wait of days together.
Available almost in every home and made the powers instantly in just 4 hours.
You choose the one most suitable to you.
STORAGE
Onion and garlic powder can be stored in airtight container for about an year.

Step wise pictorial recipe
- Remove the skin of both garlic and onion.
- Chop both separately as fine as you can.
- Put in a baking tray and bake @180°C for 4 hours.
- Take them out. Onion and garlic must have turned dry and crisp.
- Let them turn completely cool.
- Grind both to powder separately.
- Garlic and onion powder is ready.
Put in different airtight container.
NOTE
- Prefer to chop onion and garlic as thin as possible. More the thin they are, more time they will take in drying out.
- As every oven is different, so your baking time may vary. Before switching off the oven, confirm that onion and garlic are properly dried.
- Likewise ginger, tomato and lemon powders can also be made. Do remove the seeds of tomatoes and lemon remove before putting them in oven.

- 1 big Onion (use as many as you want)

- 2 Bulbs of garlic (use as many as you want)
