WHAT IS PANCHAKJJAYA ?

Panchakjjaya comprises of two words : PANCHA & KAJJAYA.

PANCHA means Paanch i.e. Five (5) and KAJJAYA means prasad or sweet from these five ingredients.

Panchakajjaya is naivedyam (offering to God) traditionally made for Ganesh chaturthi festival and even on Krishna Janmashtami.

Ganesh Chaturthi is couple of days ahead and this sweet is offered to lord Ganesha while worshiping. It is later distributed as prasad to people.

There are many ways to make this recipe using different ingredients. We have made it using Poha or avalakki with jaggery. Some made it with split chana dal or black chickpeas, sesame seeds and sugar also.

You can also find panchakajjaya in two forms, one is powdered form and the other is seen as lumps. This is such an easy recipe which gets ready in no time  and you can make it ahead of time.

PANCHAKJJAYA INGREDIENTS

JAGGERY : Feel free to use any kind of jaggery you have. Even you can use jaggery powder or sugar also. However we prefer to use jaggery because it is more healthy than refined sugar.

DESI GHEE : We have added homemade desi ghee and you know when it is an Indian sweet, desi ghee has a vital role to play.

POHA: Also called flattened rice in English and this is the prime ingredient of the recipe.

NUTS: We have added almonds, cashews and raisins as nuts.

COCONUT: When it is a Prashadam, this is incomplete without coconut. We have added fresh coconut after grating them. We have hardly seen anywhere using dry of desiccated one.

POPPY SEEDS: They bring a slight crunch in the recipe.

CARDAMOM POWDER: Cardamom powder is known for fragrance in any of the recipe especially when it is an Indian sweet.

DRY ROSE PETALS: Their musky aroma enhances the taste of the dish.
