Khaman chutney recipe | Chutney for Khaman | Dhokla Chutney recipe with step wise pictorial and video method
Khaman and Dhokla are both popular Indian snacks from Gujrat made from chickpea flour/besan.
Both these snacks are commonly served with chutneys but it is usually green chutney people use to enjoy these snacks.
If green chutney is not available, then it is the poor tomato ketchup, which is every ready to play it’s part, even with mismatched partner too. Lol.
But actually it is the special chutney which is served with khaman/dhokla and that is made with khaman/dhokla itself.
Yes, you read it right.
I learnt it from one of our good friend and wonderful home cook Ms. Maitri Gandhi. She hails from Gujrat and she is the one who told that there’s a special chutney for dhokla/khaman.
We are repeatedly writing khaman oblique (/) Dhokla because for both the dishes, there’s a similar chutney.
For Dhokla, dhokla pieces are added to chutney and
For Khaman, khaman pieces are added while preparing chutney.
Khaman and dhokla are slightly different in terms of taste and texture. Khaman is typically softer and more spongy, while dhokla is firmer and often has a slightly sour taste due to fermentation.
However both are seasoned with mustard seeds, curry leaves, cumin seeds and green chilies.
STEP WISE PICTORIAL RECIPE OF KHAMAN/DHOKLA CHUTNEY RECIPE
1. Put all the ingredients in a grinder jar.
2. Blend them finely.
Khaman/Dhokla chutney is ready.

- 1/4 cup coriander leaves with stems
- 4 pieces of khaman/dhokla
- 2 green chillies
- 1 inch ginger
- 1 tbsp sugar
- Salt to taste
- juice of 1 lemon
- 1/2 cup water
