Ingredients

1 cup = 250 ml

  • 1 litre/4 cup milk (full fat)
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 tbsp custard powder
  • 6 bread slices
  • Desi ghee as required
  • Nuts for garnish

Instructions

  • Add 2 tbsp water in a heavy bottomed pan and also add milk. Put it on high heat.
  • When milk turns lukewarm, take 2-3 ladles full and add to a bowl carrying custard powder.
  • Mix it so well.
  • Add this custard mixture to the milk.
  • Also add sugar.
  • Let the milk cook. Keep stirring. Also keep scraping the sides of the pan because malai goes and sticks there.
  • Boil the milk till it turns thick. You can check by drawing a line at the back side of the spoon.
  • Once milk is thick, remove the pan from the heat to cool down completely.
  • In the meantime, take bread slices and cut them into small quarters.
  • For roasting on tawa, apply desi ghee on non stick tawa.
  • Arrange bread quarters on tawa.
  • Apply desi ghee on bread.
  • Alternatively you can bake in oven or fry bread quarters in air fryer @180° C for 15-18 minutes from both the sides until brown and crisp.
  • Arrange the crisp bread quarters in a serving dish.
  • Pour custard milk over them.
  • Garnish with nuts of your choice.
  • Enjoy chilled.
