1 cup = 250 ml
- 1 cup basmati rice (washed & soaked for 20 minutes)
- 1/2 cup black Urad Dal (washed & soaked overnight)
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 tbsp ginger (grated)
- 2 green chilies
- 2 dry red chilies
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
- 6 cup water
Heat oil in pressure cooker and add cumin seeds, bay leaf, green chilies, dry red chilies, ginger and turmeric powder.
Saute for couple of seconds.
Add black Urad dal (soaked overnight).
Also add water and salt.
Put a lid and pressure cook for 5 whistles.
Switch off the heat and let pressure release on its own.
Add rice (soaked for 20 minutes). Mix.
Again put a lid and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
Switch off the heat and let pressure release on its own.
Black Urad Dal ki khichdi is ready.
Enjoy with a dollop of desi ghee or curd along with pickle of your choice and papad for utmost deliciousness.
