Ingredients
  

1 cup = 250 ml

  • 1 cup basmati rice (washed & soaked for 20 minutes)
  • 1/2 cup black Urad Dal (washed & soaked overnight)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 tbsp ginger (grated)
  • 2 green chilies
  • 2 dry red chilies
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 6 cup water

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in pressure cooker and add cumin seeds, bay leaf, green chilies, dry red chilies, ginger and turmeric powder.
  • Saute for couple of seconds.
  • Add black Urad dal (soaked overnight).
  • Also add water and salt.
  • Put a lid and pressure cook for 5 whistles.
  • Switch off the heat and let pressure release on its own.
  • Add rice (soaked for 20 minutes). Mix.
  • Again put a lid and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
  • Switch off the heat and let pressure release on its own.
  • Black Urad Dal ki khichdi is ready.
  • Enjoy with a dollop of desi ghee or curd along with pickle of your choice and papad for utmost deliciousness.
