Steamed semolina balls sauted in Indian spices make a healthy protein packed breakfast.

These balls are extremely easy to make  with minimal Ingredients. All you need 30 to 40 minutes & a super delicious breakfast is ready.

Also this is one of the best recipe to add semolina in your diet which is rich in protein, fiber, and vitamin B.

Semolina is also good for healthy heart, weight loss and digestion.

So if you are bored of regular rava idli or rava upma, then these suji balls are the best option to change your taste buds.

SHAPE OF SUJI BALLS

As they are the balls doesn’t mean you are bound to keep them round.

If you like, shape them anything, be it oval, flat or a log.

TYPE OF SEMOLINA USED

Semolina, called as suji or rava in hindi is the primary ingredient of this recipe.

There’s course semolina and fine semolina and as far as this recipe is concerned, you are free to use any textured semolina.

If you want to make this recipe Gluten-free, you can replace semolina with rice flour.

Furthermore, we have added just salt, black pepper and ginger in preparing the dough & then balls but you can also add dessicated coconut along with. This is definitely going to enhance the taste of your suji balls.

READY TO SERVE BALLS

Although this recipe takes 40 minutes in total but if you don’t have much time in making it in the morning, being a breakfast recipe, you can prepare the balls and steam them at night.

So in the morning, you are left with just 5 minutes job. 

HOW TO SERVE SUJI BALLS?

This breakfast recipe usually served with any chutney of your choice, be it coconut chutney, pudina chutneyGreen chutney recipe or just a regular tomato ketchup or Green Chilli Hot Sauce.

However, they can be enjoyed as it is with a hot cup of tea.

STEP WISE PICTORIAL METHOD OF SUJI KE BALLS RECIPE

 

MAKING OF DOUGH AND BALLS

 

1.Take water in a pan and add salt, black pepper powder and ginger. Mix.

2. When water begins to boil, add semolina and mix.

3. In a minute or two, water will disappear from the pan and semolina will turn into a dough.

4. Take the pan out of heat, cover the pan with a lid and let it rest for 10 minutes.

5. After 10 minutes or when the dough is still warm enough to touch with hands, take a little dough and roll into a small lemon sized ball with the greased hands.

6. Finish the dough after making balls out of it. We managed to make 20 balls out of this dough.

7. Grease the steamer with oil.

8. Arrange all the balls in the steamer.

9. Steam them for 15 minutes.

PREPARATION OF TEMPERING

10. While the balls are steaming, begin with the process of tempering making. And for that, add oil in a pan alongwith asafoetida, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, chana dal and urad dal. Roast.

11. Add dry red chilies and curry leaves.

12. Now add red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt. Saute.

13. Then transfer steamed balls and add lemon juice.

14. Give them a good mix.

15. Put some Coriander leaves at last.

  • 1 Cup suji/semolina (200 gram)
  • 1.5 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper powder
  • 1/2 tsp ginger (grated)
  • Little oil for greasing hands & steamer

  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1/8 tsp asafoetida
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp chana dal
  • 1/2 tsp urad dal
  • 2 dry red chilies
  • 8-10 curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves/cilantro
