FOR ACTIVATING YEAST
- 1/2 cup Luke warm water
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp dry active yeast
FOR KNEADING DOUGH
- 3 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 tbsp oil
- Water as required
- Activated yeast
FOR PREPARING NAAN
- 2 tbsp Nigella seeds/Kalonji
- Dry flour for dusting as required
- water as required
- Butter as required (we used vegan butter)
- 2 tbsp coriander leaves (finely chopped)
ACTIVATING YEAST
Take 1/2 cup lukewarm water in a bowl and mix 2 tbsp sugar in it.
Mix until sugar dissolves.
Add 1 tsp dry active yeast and mix.
Put a lid and rest for 10-15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, you will see a frothy mixture over the surface of water. It's a sign that yeast is activated. If yeast doesn't activate, don't go for further process.
MAKING OF DOUGH
Take 3 cup all purpose flour in a large and wide vessel.
Add 1/2 tsp salt and mix well
Add activated yeast mixture.
Initially mix with hand without adding any additional water.
Then start adding water, little at a time and start assembling the flour.
Once assembled, add 1 tbsp of oil.
Now knead the dough for 5-7 minutes. Add water, if needed.
Grease a bowl and add dough in it. Also grease dough with oil.
Put a lid on the bowl and place the bowl at some warm place in the kitchen for 1:30 hours.
After the said period, you will find that dough has doubled in size.
Punch to release all the air inside and knead for a minute.
MAKING OF NAAN
Take a portion of dough and roll it into your palm.
Put it on a flour dusted surface.
Roll it. The shape of naan is usually oval.
Prick all over the surface using fork into prevent the naan from puffing up while air frying/baking.
Apply bit of water over the surface where naan is poked.
Sprinkle 2-3 pinches of Nigella seeds/kalonji and press gently.
BAKING IN OVEN
Pre-heat the oven @180°C for 10 minutes with fan mode on. If your oven doesn't have fan mode, just switch both rods on.
Place the naan on baking tray lined with aluminium foil or greased butter paper or silicon mat.
Place the tray on top rack of the oven.
Bake @180°C for 10 minutes.
SERVING
Once done, take the naan out if air fryer/oven.
Apply a mixture of melted butter and coriander leaves.
Serve hot.
