Vegan Whole wheat Cinnamon rolls

Vegan Cinnamon rolls made with wheat flour

Ingredients
  

1 cup = 200 ml

    FOR ACTIVATING YEAST

    • 1/2 Cup luke warm water
    • 1/4 cup sugar of your choice (we used bura sugar)
    • tsp yeast (we used active yeast)

    FOR MAKING DOUGH

    • Activated yeast
    • 2.50 cup whole wheat flour (360 gram)
    • 4 tbsp oil
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • Water as required

    FOR MAKING FILLING

    • 1/2 cup Brown sugar (we used Jaggery powder)
    • 1 tbsp cinnamon powder
    • butter as required (we used vegan butter)

    FOR GLAZE

    • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (we used bura sugar)
    • 2 tbsp milk of your choice (we used oats milk)
    • 1/4 tsp vanilla essence

    Instructions
     

    ACTIVATING YEAST

    • Take a big bowl and add luke warm water and sugar and mix.
    • Add yeast and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
    • After the said period, yeast will turn bubbly and frothy.

    KNEADING DOUGH

    • Add flour, oil and salt in the yeast mixture.
    • Give it a good mix.
    • Now start kneading the dough using water.
    • Knead a tight dough.
    • Cover the bowl either with kitchen towel and lid or with cling film.
    • Place the bowl at some warm place in the kitchen for 1.5 to 2 hours.

    PREPARATION OF FILLING

    • Mix sugar and cinnamon powder. Butter will be needed but at later stage.

    PREPARATION OF GLAZE

    • Mix sugar, milk and vanilla essence and refrigerate it till needs to be used.

    MAKING OF CINNAMON ROLLS

    • After 1.5 - 2 hours, dough must have been doubled in size.
    • Knead it for a minute.
    • Place the dough on a clean surface dusted with flour.
    • Roll the dough into 1 cm thick rectangular shape.
    • Brush the melted butter all over the dough.
    • Sprinkle the filling (cinnamon powder + sugar mixture) evenly over the entire dough.
    • Roll up the dough forming a log.
    • On the other end of the log, apply some water so that log remains properly stucked.
    • Now either using a sharp knife or nylon thread, cup the log into 14 pieces.

    BAKING IN AIR FRYER

    • Arrange a foil cover in air fryer basket and place cinnamon rolls inside, one in the centre and as much as can be adjusted on the sides.
    • Cover the basket and let them rise again for 30 minutes.
    • Place the basket in air fryer and air fry them for 20 minutes @140°C.
    • Air Fried cinnamon rolls are ready.

    BAKING IN OVEN

    • Arrange cinnamon rolls in a greased baking dish.
    • Bake @180°C in a pre-heated oven for 25-30 minutes or until cinnamon rolls turn brown.
    • Enjoy them hot after drizzling a glaze.

    Notes

    1. To know more about Yeast, click here.
    2. If yeast not gets activated, then don't move ahead with the recipe. It will be a disaster.
    3. All purpose flour makes more lighter rolls than whole wheat flour.
    4. Proofing time of dough may vary depending on whether conditions.
    5. Butter can be replaced with coconut oil.
    6. You can use cake tin also for arranging the rolls. If don't have cake tin too, them arrange the rolls loose on baking tray.
