Coconut chutney is a staple food from South India and a must condiment with dosa and idli alongwith sambar..

Usually it is made using fresh coconut after grating coconut because fresh coconut is very common in south India. But in North India, fresh coconut is made at selected shops. In such an eventuality, this is dry desiccated coconut which comes to rescue.

Not just this recipe is so easy, but extremely quick to make. Just assemble few basic ingredients and you are done.

Not made in a very strict south Indian style using roasted gram dal, this is the recipe which is made in a very simple and quick manner.

And rest assured, you will hardly find the difference between the authentic south Indian recipe and the one given in this post.

 

 

STEP WISE PICTORIAL RECIPE OF COCONUT CHUTNEY WITH DESICCATED COCONUT

  1. Roast peanuts on low heat and let cool completely.


2. Add peanuts, coconut, green chilies, tamarind, salt and water.


3. Grind to a smooth paste and take it out in a serving bowl.


4. Add oil in tadka pan and add mustard, curry leaves and chilli. Mix.


5. Pour on the paste and mix.

1 cup = 250 ml

FOR PASTE

  • 1/4 cup dessicated coconut ((25 gram))
  • 1/4 cup raw peanuts ((45 grams))
  • 2 green chilies
  • Small piece of tamarind
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup water

FOR TEMPERING

  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tbsp mustard seeds
  • 8-10 curry leaves
  • 1 dry red chilli

  4. Take the paste out in a bowl.
